The creator may have disabled downloads
TikTok states that Save video is available when the post creator allows others to download the content. When the option is absent, the creator may have switched downloads off.
The post may not be a standard public video
Private accounts, friends-only visibility, some age or regional restrictions, deleted posts and login-gated pages can all change what options appear.
Do not treat a missing button as permission to bypass the restriction
When somebody else disabled downloads, the responsible path is to ask for permission or use TikTok’s Save bookmark/share features. A third-party tool should be used only for your own media or content you are authorised to copy.
For your own post, preserve a copy before publishing
TikTok recommends enabling Save to device on the Post screen or using the editing-screen Save control so you have an offline copy of your own media before it goes live.
When a public link still fails
TikTok changes its delivery systems regularly. Try the complete resolved post URL instead of a short link, and confirm the post opens in a private browser window without an account.
Practical checklist
- Check whether the post is public.
- Ask the creator if downloads are disabled.
- Use Save to device for your own media before posting.
- Do not use login cookies or private-content tools.
- Use the full resolved TikTok URL when troubleshooting.
