Reddit video, explained
Download a Reddit video with sound — not a silent mystery file.
Paste one public Reddit post URL. The analyser checks the available streams, shows the real output choices and merges picture with sound when the source provides them separately.

Links that give the analyser enough information
Best candidates
- An individual reddit.com post URL
- A redd.it share link that resolves to a post
- A v.redd.it media URL when enough post information is available
Expected to fail
- A subreddit homepage or search page
- A user profile or Saved list
- A deleted, private, quarantined or login-restricted post
- A gallery, text post or external page with no downloadable video stream
Why Reddit videos sometimes download without sound
Reddit-hosted media can expose video and audio as separate streams. Saving only the visible video stream may produce a silent file. Save Video Online analyses the post first, then uses FFmpeg to combine compatible video and audio into one finished file when both streams are available.
Copy the post link
Open the individual Reddit post, use Share, then copy the complete post URL. A post link is more reliable than copying a bare media address.
Check the detected streams
The result tells you whether the source has a video stream, audio stream and compatible MP4 output.
Choose a finished output
Start with Compatible MP4. The server downloads and merges the required streams before presenting the temporary file.
Reddit “Save” is a bookmark, not a downloaded video
Reddit’s built-in Save command places the post in the Saved section of your Reddit profile so you can revisit it later. It does not create an MP4 in your device Downloads folder. Use Reddit Save when you only need a bookmark; use a file download only when you own the media or have permission to copy it.
Read Reddit’s official Save-post instructions ↗Where the download normally goes
Browser and device settings can change the exact folder, but these are the usual locations.
iPhone / iPad
Safari normally places the file in Files → Downloads. Open the file, tap Share, then choose Save Video when the MP4 is compatible with Photos.
Android
Chrome normally places the file in Downloads. Open Files by Google or your device’s file manager and check Downloads.
Windows
Most browsers save to the Downloads folder unless you selected another location.
Mac
Safari and Chrome normally save to Downloads. Finder → Downloads is the quickest place to check.
Use the error as a clue
The post opens, but the result has no audio
The original post may be silent, the audio stream may be unavailable, or the link may point directly to a video stream without its post metadata.
The page says no video was found
Confirm that the URL is the individual post, not the subreddit, profile or comments search page.
The post works only when logged in
The media is not anonymously public. This service does not import your Reddit login or cookies.
The video was deleted or removed
A removed source cannot be reconstructed by the downloader.
Publicly viewable does not automatically mean free to copy
Use the tool for media you created, material the rights holder authorised you to save, public-domain content, or another lawful use. A downloaded file does not grant permission to republish, sell or remove attribution.
- You created the media.
- The rights holder gave permission.
- A licence allows the copy.
- The material is genuinely public domain.
- You have another lawful basis and understand its limits.
Answers before you paste the link
Why does Reddit separate video and audio?
Reddit-hosted media may be delivered as adaptive streams. That lets a player choose an appropriate quality, but it also means a simple “save video” action can capture picture without the matching sound.
Will every Reddit video contain sound?
No. Some posts are genuinely silent, some use GIF-style media, and some source links expose only one stream.
Does this work with external videos posted on Reddit?
Sometimes. If the Reddit post embeds another supported public source, the analyser may follow it. The result depends on the original host.
Can I download an entire subreddit?
No. Profiles, communities, feeds and bulk requests are intentionally outside the service design.
