What Save video does
Facebook lets you save Reels and videos so they are easier to view later. Saved items remain connected to Facebook and can disappear if the original post is deleted or its visibility changes.
What Download does
A download creates a separate local file. It can remain on your device, but creating and reusing that copy still requires ownership, permission or another lawful right.
Use Save when context matters
The Facebook bookmark keeps comments, reactions, creator information and the original post together. That is often the better choice for somebody else’s content.
Use official owner tools for your own content
Facebook provides Accounts Centre export, Page downloads, direct owner Reel downloads and an ended-Live download workflow.
Where to find each one
Facebook bookmarks appear in Saved. Browser downloads normally appear in Files or the Downloads folder on your device.
Practical checklist
- Revisit later inside Facebook: use Save.
- Need your own media archive: use Facebook export.
- Need one authorised public file: use the individual post URL.
- Do not use private-group or friends-only links.
